(Jeremiah Burroughs, 1600-1646)
“I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances!” Philippians 4:11
Christian contentment is that sweet, inward, quiet, gracious frame of spirit, which freely submits to and delights in God’s wise and fatherly disposal in every condition.
“Godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that!” 1 Timothy 6:6-8
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said: Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you!” Hebrews 13:5

Are you a distressed believer?
Is your heart . . .
pressed down with sickness,
tried with disappointments,
overburdened with cares?
To you I say, “Behold the cross of Christ!”
Think whose hand is allowing/measuring to you
the cup of bitterness which you are now drinking!
It is the hand of Him who was crucified!
It is the same hand which in love to your
soul was nailed to the accursed tree! Surely
that thought should comfort and hearten you.
Surely you should say to yourself, “A crucified
Savior will never allow anything to me that is
not for my good. It must be well.”
