(John Flavel, 1627-1691)
“The Son of God, who loved me and He gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:20
The condemnation was Yours, that the justification might be mine!
The agony was Yours, that the victory might be mine!
The pain was Yours, that eternal pleasure might be mine!
The stripes were Yours, and the healing balm issuing from them were mine!
The vinegar and gall were Yours, that the honey and sweet issuing from them might be mine!
The curse was Yours, that the blessing might be mine!
The crown of thorns was Yours, that the crown of glory might be mine!
The sin-atoning death was Yours, that the heavenly life purchased by it might be mine!
You paid the price, that I might enjoy the priceless inheritance!
“Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Ephesians 5:2

“Even if my father and mother abandon me,
the Lord will hold me close.” Psalm 27:10
Earthly relationships are easily dissolved.
Affection may decay.
Fickleness begets estrangement.
Distance may part.
Death comes, and desolation sits
where happy fellowship once reigned.
But God’s love is strong, immutable, and
eternal. His heart beats with tenderness,
and is incapable of diminution or of change.
O Father, ever be a Father unto us!
“Even if my father and mother abandon me,
the Lord will hold me close.” Psalm 27:10
