So shall your strength be

(J.R. Miller, “The Shining Light” 1911)

“As your days — so shall your strength be!” Deuteronomy 33:25

Strength was not promised in advance — enough for all of life, or even for a year, or for a month. The promise was, that for each day, when it came with its own needs, duties, battles, and griefs — enough strength would be given. Because As the burden increased — more strength would be imparted. Therefore As the night grew darker — the lamps would shine out more brightly. So shall your strength be

The important thought here is, that strength is not emptied into our hearts in bulk — a supply for years to come.  But is kept in reserve, and divinely given day by day, just as the day’s needs require.

“Give us this day our daily bread.” Matthew 6:11

Therefore “On the day I called, You answered me; You increased strength within me!” Psalm 138:3

Certainly I will be with you!” Exodus 3:12

Then, Lord, I will go forward. I would not venture a step — if You did not accompany me. But if You are with me, then all is well.

With You I will go forth to my daily business in the world — for You will keep me amidst its temptations and snares.

I will labor in Your vineyard — for You will make Your strength perfect in my weakness.

And I will walk the thorny path of trial — for You will furnish me with shoes of iron and brass.

With You I will enter the chamber of pain and weakness — for You will hold and comfort me in my sickness.

And I will walk through the valley of the shadow of death, and will fear no evil — for Your rod and Your staff will comfort me.

With You I will enter the waters of Jordan — for You will bear me through, and land me on the shore of the heavenly Canaan.

“Surely I am with you always — even to the end of the age!” Matthew 28:20

“I will never leave you or forsake you!” Hebrews 13:5
