The great lesson…

(Letters of William Romaine, 1714-1795)

There is . . .
no pardon but in Christ’s blood,
no justification but in His obedience,
no safety but in His keeping me,
no happiness but in His love,
no Heaven but in the enjoyment of our precious Immanuel.

The great lesson of the Christian life is coming daily as a poor sinner to live upon a rich Savior.

I have been at this lesson a great while, and though very dull and stupid–yet, through marvelous grace, I have learned something.
